Speculation on Call of Duty Schedule Will Come to Xbox Game Pass

In January 2023, Microsoft announced the acquisition Activision Blizzard worth $68.7 billion. This acquisition includes several popular game franchises, thus opening up the opportunity for the Call of Duty game to be available on Game Pass.

As is known, Game Pass is a subscription platform Xbox games.

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard heralds popular games such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush could be a part Xbox Game Pass. 

Although there is no official date yet Call of Duty will be coming to Xbox Game Pass, but there is a possibility that this popular game will be coming in 2024.

Speculation Call of Duty Coming to Xbox Game Pass

Quoting from British online media, Metro GC, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer revealed that currently gaming Activision Blizzard coming to Xbox Game Pass is Diablo 4.

Phil Spencer also said that Diablo would be released on March 28 2024. However, he did not provide further information on when other Activision Blizzard games would launch on Xbox Game Pass.

Although there is no definite time, Phil confirmed that the Call of Duty game will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass platform soon.

However, there may be several processes that Microsoft still needs to do before actually releasing Call of Duty on the Xbox game download platform. 

He revealed that Microsoft is currently preparing the Call of Duty game. This aims to ensure that the war game can be available on PC and console simultaneously.

Inhibiting Factors Call of Duty Isn't Available on Game Pass Yet

There are at least three factors preventing the Call of Duty game from being released immediately on Game Pass though Microsoft has acquired Activision Blizzard, here is the explanation:

Acquisition process

After the acquisition process, the transfer of game ownership rights to Microsoft did not just happen. Because Activision is a large company that has trading partners throughout the country. 

This review process takes a long time, because each party involved with Activision games has its own regulations. 

There is still a negotiation process so that Call of Duty cannot release the Call of Duty game to Game Pass right now. This is because Microsoft does not yet have full rights to Activision Blizzard games. 

Thus, the thing that is hampering the process of releasing the list of Activision games on Game Pass is the ongoing acquisition process.

License agreement

Before finally being acquired by Microsoft of course Activision Blizzard bound by licensing agreements with other gaming platforms such as Xbox Game Pass. 

Regarding this matter, Microsoft certainly has to negotiate with the parties previously involved in licensing agreements with Activision Blizzard.

So far, Microsoft may still be renegotiating contracts with other platforms. The negotiation process is of course very complex and time consuming. 

That's why Microsoft has not been able to unilaterally release Call of Duty and several other Activision Blizzard games to Game Pass. 

Technical readiness

Call of Duty games have different technical specifications. Therefore, Microsoft needs to ensure that Activision games are compatible for various devices that support Game Pass.

That includes game consoles Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs. This optimization needs to be done to ensure that the Activision games presented on Game Pass can run smoothly.
