Best Team Comps Serval Honkai Star Rail

Serval is a character unit that utilizes DoT (Damage over Time). Knowing and understanding the abilities of the Landau family's eldest brother is very important to determine a team that can maximize Serval's abilities.

A brief summary of Trace Serval

Serval is a 4 star character unit that uses Lightning and Path Erudition elements.

As a character with the Erudition path, Serval's abilities will really shine when fighting large numbers of enemies.

The thing that differentiates Serval compared to other Erudition characters is its ability to get huge AoE damage.

Another unique thing about Trace Serval's ability is that it takes advantage of damage from DoT or Damage over Time.

Shock effect (DoT from the Lightning element) resulting from Trace Serval's ability. Each of Serval's abilities can increase the damage from DoT and maintain the DoT's duration so that it is effective as long as possible until the enemy is defeated.

Serval's skill can apply Shock for 2 turns. And Ultimate Serval can extend the duration of the DoT application by an additional 2 turns as long as the enemy still gets the Shock effect. 

Serval's talent also supports where enemies hit by Serval attacks will get additional Lightning DMG as long as the enemy is still affected by the Shock effect.

Traces from Gepard and Lynx Landau's brothers are calculated based on ATK, so Serval's build in the big picture is not much different from the damage dealer Honkai Star Rail character build in general.

The stat you should prioritize is Crit with ATK as the next priority. This is because even though the largest portion of Serval's DMG comes from Talent, Serval's Trace optimization depends on Crit.

Enough parts tricky and requires detailed understanding is part of the team rotation.

As discussed previously, Serval's optimal DMG will rotate by utilizing DoT.

Therefore, Serval must "build the base" first by continuously applying Skills and Ultimates to apply and maintain the DoT effect.

The damage generated at the start of the turn certainly won't be big because Serval has to increase the DoT effect first.

At least at the start of the turn, you have to use enough Skill Points for Serval to apply DoT and Ultimate spam.

However, after the DoT effect is applied properly, you can adjust the Skill Point usage for the DoT application from the Skill.

Serval's Best Team Comps Recommendations

According to the author, the best team comps for Serval are 2 options: Build Team DoT and Build Team Non DoT.

Build Team DoT

As the name suggests, Serval will act as a damage dealer who utilizes damage from the DoT application.

This team is very good considering that there are quite a lot of characters who prioritize damage from DoT such as Kafka, Shampoo, Guinafen, and Black Swan.

On the DoT team, you will focus damage on Serval as the Sub or main DPS along with another DoT character who can give big damage such as Black Swan or Guinafen.

Kafka is the most recommended DoT character because he has the same element, namely Lightning, as Serval, which also produces a Shock effect.

The author recommends using 2 to 3 total DoT characters in the team and the remaining one slot in the team can be used for support characters such as Healers (Abundance), Shield (Preservation), or Buffer (Harmony).

An example of a DoT team for Serval is as follows:

• Serval + Kafka + Black Swan + Fu Xuan
• Serval + Shampoo + Black Swan + Lynx
• Serval + Kafka + Ruan Mei + Luocha
• Serval + Guinafen + Kafka + Huohuo
• Serval + Shampoo + Pela + Bailu

Build Team Non DoT (Sub – DPS)

This Non DoT team is more general where the DPS playing position is filled by characters other than Serval. Serval is a flexible character unit for you to use in any DPS team.

The reason is because Serval uses little energy to use Ultimate so you can spam Ultimate at any time.

For non-DoT teams, you can place Serval as the second attacker with a team that you adjust to the DPS you use, for example:
