FromSoftware is a game developer from Japan. At first the games they released were not immediately categorized into the 'soulsborne' genre by fans.

The genre got its name from the first Souls game released in 2009 and was followed by several other games that had similar gameplay, stories, and atmospheres.

Soulsborne's gameplay usually offers a high level of difficulty, in which the player has to face strong enemies, traps, and dead ends.

Players will often die in the game and have to return to the last checkpoint to try again. However, the player can also collect resources such as money, weapons and other items during the gameplay.

Basically, these titles tend to be more genre-oriented RPGs. Therefore improving character and abilities through training and collecting items are also the focus of the game.

Even though this genre is very synonymous with the developer, that doesn't mean that all of their lineups belong to that genre. That being said, only their masterpieces were included in it.

There are only seven games made by the developer that fall into this genre. So how about the rest? Well, let's just say it's part of their experiment in mapping the industry.

So, in order to better understand which ones are included in it, here VCGamers will present it in list form.

Demon's Souls

This title is predicted to be the first Soulsborne which was released in 2009 on the Playstation 3 console.

This game is the forerunner of the rise of the genre. Even though the graphics look old-fashioned, the gameplay is still very challenging and satisfies gamers from all walks of life.

Dark Souls

This title comes as the second Soulsborne game released in 2011 on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

This game takes a wider and more complex setting than the previous title. Dark Souls is known as the most famous Soulsborne game and is often "cult" by fans of this genre.

Dark SoulsII

This title is the sequel and third Soulsborne game, released in 2014 with the same cross-platform concept.

Even though it is considered to have easier gameplay than the previous installation, the setting and story are still interesting.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne is the fourth Soulsborne game released in 2015 on the Playstation 4.

This game comes with a more gloomy, scary, fast and aggressive setting than the previous Soulsborne lineups.

Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III is the fifth and final Soulsborne game released in 2016 on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PCs.

This game takes a more epic setting with a heavier narrative than the previous Soulsborne series.

Sekiro: Shadows Die

Is the newest Soulsborne game before Elden Ring which was released in 2019 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The game has a unique gameplay as it combines elements of stealth and fast-paced action.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice also has settings and stories that tend to be “Japanese” like the region the developer is from.
