Super Dragon Ball Z was developed by Arika and Crafts & Meister and released in Japan in December 2005. This game managed to sell 95,082 units in its first week.

Unlike other series such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai and Tenkaichi's Budokai series, this game uses the traditional formula that Capcom and SNK made famous in the 1990s.

Some characters like Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, and others have a shorter power-up tempo to reach their Super Saiyan form.

The fireball move and the like make up most of the special moves along with the “dial-a-combo” in Mortal Kombat 3 and Tekken for close combat.

There are 6 game modes in Super Dragon Ball Z namely Original, Z Survivor, Training, Versus, Shenron Summon, and Customize.

The overall theme in this game presents the manga well. Starting from the color scheme, art-style, to the loading screen, it refers to the original series in Weekly Jump.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai has 3 game series that you should all try!

The Budokai series has the usual 2D combat gameplay. This includes punch buttons, regular kicks, and firing ki blasts.

Many of the special moves in this game are taken directly from the animation including Goku's Kamehameha, Vegeta's Galick Gun and Frieza's Death Beam.

In the first series, there are 23 playable characters. The story in this game follows the first 3 stories of the Dragon Ball Z franchise.

The arc starts from the Saiyan saga, The Planet Namek saga and ends with the final battle between Gohan SSJ2 and Cell in the Android Saga.

The second series, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2, was released a year after the first version, in 2003. This game was released by Atari for PS2 and Nintendo Cube.

In the Budokai 2 series, there are additional playable characters, namely 31 people. This includes fusions from other fighters and various forms absorbed by Majin Buu.

Games it tells the story of “Dragon World” with a unique storytelling of all 4 chapters of Z and playing a board game while assembling Z and Goku's team to fight the villains.

The third Budokai series was released in 2004, developed by Dimps and released by Atari for the PlayStation 2.

The Japanese version of Budokai 3 adds several costumes that were not present in the North American and European versions.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is a PS2 dragonball game developed by Spike and released by Bandai in 2005.

This game uses a "behind the back" camera perspective. Similar to Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors released by Super Famicom.

During battle, players can charge their Ki to perform various techniques such as Power Guard. This will reduce the damage received by the player by 1/4.

Ki can also perform a move called the Blast 2 skill. Each character has the Blast 2 skill set and they can use it for special moves like Ki Blast and physical attacks.

In story mode, the character's main goal is to complete battles based on the original manga series and storylines exclusive to the anime.

Dragon Balls can be obtained throughout the story mode by destroying battle areas. However, players can only save Dragon Balls if they win the battle.

The first series of this game has 64 playable characters with 10 stages. Players can fight across Earth Wasteland, Planet Namek, to the World Tournament Arena.

The second series of Budokai Tenkaichi was released a year after the first series. This game was first released for the Nintendo platform and was re-released in October 2006 for the PlayStation 2.

This game features 100 characters and has 16 stages. In the Japanese and PAL Wii versions there are 5 additional characters such as Demon King Piccolo and Frieza Soldier.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was released in 2007 for the Wii and PlayStation 2 in Japan. This game was also released in North America and Europe in the same year.

Tenkaichi 3 features 98 characters in 161 forms, a huge number for a fighting game of the time.

There are several important new features in the game such as Battle Replay, which allows players to record battles and Night and Day stages where certain characters change.

Dragon Ball: Infinite World is the last game series released on the PlayStation 2 game console.

The 3D fighting game adapted from the manga series by Akira Toriyama and managed to sell 76,452 copies in Japan a week after its release.

The game mechanics are similar to the Budokai series with some elements carried over from Burst Limit. You can play characters from various Dragon Ball franchises and fight against them.

There are 42 playable characters in this game, such as Broly, Cell, Frieza, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks and Goku.

The story mode in this game is called Dragon Mission which uses a map with various missions that tell several battles in the manga and anime.

There is a “Fighter's Road” mode which becomes available after certain achievements are fulfilled. In this mode, you will participate in battles on the map in Dragon Mission mode.
