Kaigaku, a Demon Slayer who Defects as a Demon in Demon Slayer

Kaigaku is a character in Demon Slayer, and Zenitsu's senior. They both previously studied under the direction of the former Lightning Pillar, namely Jigoro Kuwajima.

Knowing that Kaigaku was once a demon slayer, it was interesting to find out who he really was, and to learn many other things about him in Demon Slayer.

Once a foster child of Gyomei

Since childhood, Kaigaku has lived as a karaoke or orphan. For this reason, he was then raised by Gyomei Himejima along with other children at his shrine. 

However, Kaigaku has a bad character and is always known as a problematic child. So one day, he was caught stealing and he was thrown out of the temple. 

On his way from the temple, he encountered a demon and revealed the location of the temple to the demon in order to take revenge on the temple that had banished him.

Disciple of Jigoro Kuwajima, the Former Lightning Pillar

As a child who likes to cause trouble, Kaigaku ends up going to prison. 

Then Jigoro saved Kaigaku together with Zenitsu Agatsuma, and made them both his students.

Not only that, Kaigaku is also expected to become a senior who is able to motivate and set an example for Zenitsu who is very cowardly. 

However, this task became a burden for Kaigaku, making him very annoyed by Zenitsu's presence.

Projected as the Successor to the Lightning Pillar

Even though Kaigaku often carries out various events that trouble the people around him, Kaigaku is still believed to be the successor of the Lightning Pillar.

The thing that makes him worthy of being Pilar Petie's successor is his amazing strength and survival skills.

And he also has great potential so he can join the Demon Slayer Corps.

Unable to Master the First Form of Lightning Breathing Technique

Kaigaku is someone who is very skilled in swordsmanship. Apart from that, he also easily mastered all five forms of the lightning breathing technique taught by his teacher.

However, Kaigaku was unable to use the first form of the Lightning breathing technique. 

In fact, mastering the first technique is very important so that the use of other techniques can work optimally.

And this reason made Jigoro decide that Jim Zenitsu had the right to be his successor. 

This then gave birth to deep hatred within Kaigaku towards Zenitsu.

Become a Traitor of the Demon Slayer Corps

After Zenitusi was appointed by Jigoro as the successor to the Lightning Pillar, Kaigaku tried to get attention in various ways.

One of the ways he did this was by finding and fighting Kokushibo, the first Upper Moon Demon.

As a result, Kaigaku was easily defeated by Kokushibo, but this paved the way for Kaigaku to betray him again. 

Then Kaigaku begged Kokushibo for mercy and made him a demon after voluntarily receiving Muzan's blood from Kokushibo.

Became the Cause of Jigoro's Death

Because Kaigaku followed in Kokushibo's footsteps, from being a Demon Slayer to defecting and siding with the devil. 

This made Jigoro Kuwajima feel embarrassed. And Jigoro lost interest in his life after learning the news. 

And out of a sense of responsibility for his own students, Jigoro finally ended his life by committing seppuku.

 Becoming the New Upper Moon 6

After the defeat of the Upper Moon 6 Demons, Gyutaro and Daki, Kaigaku was promoted to fill the vacant position and made him the new Upper Moon 6.

However, Kaigaku only briefly occupied this position because he had to experience the attack on Infinity Castle by the Demon Slayer Corps.

Defeated by Zenitsu

In the Infinity Castle arc, the Demon Slayer Corps fights Muzan and the remaining demons.

Here Zenitsu and Kaigaku look for each other and hope for a one-on-one battle based on the grudges they each carry. 

The result of this battle was Zenitsu who managed to defeat Kaigaku even though he had to bleed.
