Elden Ring DLC: Release Date, Plot Speculation, and Leaks

The release date of the DLC Elden Rings certainly a hot question among lovers of this Dark Souls game.

After holding the best game of 2022 and winning the Game of the Year title, many players are looking forward to the continuation of this game.

On its anniversary last February, From Software launched a DLC entitled "Shadow of the Erdtree".

What can be known about this DLC? The following is an explanation regarding Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” Release Date Leaks

Elden Ring DLC Release Date

After being released more than 1 year ago, Elden Ring has indeed not had any continuation regarding games.

On February 28th right at the time of the first Anniversary, Elden Rings announced from the game's official Twitter account (@eldenring) a post announcing that there will be a new expansion for the game.

The caption only reports that the Elden Ring DLC expansion with the title Shadow of the Erdtree is currently in development.

However, the post doesn't have any continuation like trailers or anything that makes players feel like they're hanging.

The last Twitter post only reported the BGM for the new Morgott and Incantation songs that were added in patch 1.07, namely Radagon's Ring of Light.

Given history DLC Other FromSotware games like Bloodborne are quite fast from the release of the game, of course, this raises the question that the Elden Ring DLC is quite slow.

Bloodborne itself was released in March 2015 and the DLC entitled The Old Hunters was released in November 2015, making it only 8 months away.

Elden Ring's long development of the DLC is actually not without reason. Most likely this is because FromSoftware, as a game developer, is currently busy preparing for the release of the latest game, ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON.

This Action Mecha themed game was announced to be released on August 25 and will also be published by Bandai Namco, the same as Elden Ring.

Considering that the new ARMORED CORE will be released at the end of summer, players are speculating that at least the DLC will be released at the end of 2023 or early 2024.

Elden Ring DLC Leaks

A data miner, Lance McDonald, who has leaked valid information about Elden Ring several times, has leaked several things related to this Elden Ring DLC.

Lance said in one of his Discord conversations with fans, Elden Ring is planned to get 2 DLC which of course gets a Season Pass.

It is equal to Dark Souls III which received 2 DLC after release, namely: Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City.

However, FromSoftware for now the 2 DLCs are combined into 1 DLC with a bigger expansion.

This case is exactly the case in the predecessor game, namely Bloodborne. Bloodborne should get 2 DLC and become 1, namely The Old Hunters.

Merging this expansion means that there will be two follow-up stories from the main Elden Ring game story that will be obtained or become stories with follow-up quests. 

Previously, Lance also leaked about 2 Colosseum data that were not used.

Lance speculates that the two Colosseums are part of the areas that will be unlocked in the DLC. But in the end the area near Limgrave became a PvP arena.

There was also a leak in the form of a trailer showing the interface of the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.

This leak is allegedly just a fanart created to celebrate the announcement of the expansion of Elden Ring.

Speculation and Theories Regarding DLC Plots

While there isn't much to say about what the story plot will be, what timeframe the expansion will use, and whose point of view the story will take place, there are several theories regarding the DLC and what you can look forward to.

If you look at the released art teaser, you can see Erdtree trees that have been scorched by fire, ruins of buildings, golden meadows, and someone riding a horned horse or Torrent.

In our opinion, there are two speculations regarding the identity of the mysterious figure who is riding the Torrent, which depends on which timeframe will be discussed in the Shadow of Erdtree story plot.

If you take the plot backwards, chances are that the character in the teaser is Queen Marika. This can be seen from the hairstyle with braids around the head. 

This DLC may tell more about Queen Marika's reasons for destroying the Elden Ring, her relationship with Radagon or Greater Will, and other pasts that haven't been discussed in the game's main story.

If you look at the scorched Erdtree trees and the large amount of rubble, there is a possibility that the path that will be taken from the DLC is the future.

One of the endings that can be obtained is Tarnished (player character) which burns the Erdtree tree.

If it's a future plot, the right speculation regarding the identity of the blonde character is Miquella, who has a physical resemblance to Queen Marika.

Miquella is the brother of Malenia the Rot who is also the son of Queen Marika and Radagon.

One of the Empyreans who should be a candidate for vessel Elden Ring with Ranni and Malenia it hasn't shown up in the game yet because it's asleep.

Miquella's curse is that she cannot grow old. He also chooses to sleep to create the Haligtree tree, as a way to break Miquella and Malenia's curse.

It's not impossible that Miquella who wakes up will be the starting point for the Elden Ring DLC.

Apart from the possibility of the two previous speculations, it could be another timeline that FromSoftware will take. It is possible that there will be differences in timelines and even universes for this DLC.
