On July 31, 2010, a user named Flaky posted a comment on the Minecraft forums. The post contains a copy of a post on 4chan's forum.

The contents of the post tells the story of a player who meets an entity that has a pair of bright white eyes after hearing the song "13" from the cassette.

This story was first known as a creepypasta story related to a pair of white eyes in Minecraft.

The following day, a user named Endorphine posted a thread again containing a myth about the sound in the Alpha v1.0.3 update which was added as a backdrop for caves in the game.

The myth states that a pair of white pixels will appear every time the background sound plays. In this post there is also a video which is an example of the appearance of these two white pixels.

After the story about “White Eyes” hit the Minecraft forums and gained popularity, a modified version of the story appeared on August 24th.

In that version it is said that "White Eyes" is a default model of the player character who has a pair of white eyes.

"White Eyes" then got a new title, namely Herobrine on August 19. When referred to as Herobrine.

He is described as a mob with white eyes and Notch's deceased older brother (in the real world, Notch had no brothers).

In a deleted thread on the Minecraft forums on August 2010, an anonymous human entity is said to have been discovered in Minecraft in single player mode.

These entities are described with strange behavior such as following players from a distance, making unnatural constructions such as pyramid-shaped sand in the sea and pulling leaves from trees.

Posts on the 4chan forum also provide one screenshot which shows the existence of this mob. In the picture, Herobrine is standing far away in the fog.

A streamer from Brocraft named Copeland saw a post about Herobrine on the 4chan forum and gave likes there.

Copeland finally plotted a lie. He changed the texture of a painting to make it look like Herobrine and showed it on the live stream.

On August 30, Copeland played as usual. He played for 20 minutes and 45 seconds before entering the room where there was a fake Herobrine he had made.

After entering the room he made, Copeland pretended to be scared and screamed out of the room and then ended the live broadcast immediately.

He later posted a message on the forum and provided the video link in hopes of getting the same reaction as his previous post.

Many people dispute the authenticity of Copeland's post. They even started making their own Herobrine screenshots and edits.

After a long time, another streamer, Patimuss, made a live broadcast showing the existence of this mob in a lava pool made by another user.

Many people are finally starting to believe in the existence of this mob. However, during the second live broadcast, a chat between Pattimus and his wife sparked anger among the audience.

During the conversation, Pattimus is heard telling his wife that he is pranking people with fake Herobrine content.

Various angry comments filled the live chat column of the live broadcast. Copeland does not like Pattimus' actions which suggest that Herobrine is not real.
