Set several years after God of War 3, 2018's God of War brings Kratos from Greece to the Norse world of Midgard, where Kratos now lives with his son, Atreus.

Kratos and Atreus plan to fulfill Faye's last wish, which is to scatter her ashes from the highest peaks in the Nine Realms.

Their journey is not an easy climb, as the two travel through various realms, meeting friends and foes from Norse mythology, including Baldur, Freya, Thor's sons Magni and Modi, the last living giant, Jörmungandr, and Mimir.

Along the way, Kratos struggles with fatherhood and the truth he's been hiding from Atreus, about his past and Atreus' identity.

After their adventure, the Nine Realms entered Fimbulwinter, the precursor to Ragnarok, the end of the world, for three years.
