OG's Journey to Win ESL One Malaysia

OG is one of the very famous Dota 2 teams. Even though they contain a young roster, they managed to show the world that they are the strongest Dota 2 players at the moment.

Looking back at the organizational history of the OG Dota 2 esports team, the team has won two The Internationals in a row. However, the roster that won The International twice in a row has changed teams.

Currently, OG contains a relatively new roster. There is Yuragi as position one or carry safe lane, bzm as mid laner, ATF as off laner, Taiga as support 4, and Chuvash as stand-in support 5 namely hard support.

The following is OG's journey in winning ESL One Malaysia, starting from the Group Stage, Playoffs, and finally the Grand Final.

There are two groups of six teams. OG is included in Group B which contains Fnatic, Nigma Galaxy, TSM, BOOM Esports, and Team Liquid.

During the group stage, OG managed to get 3 wins, one draw and one loss. On the first day, they managed to beat Fnatic and Team Liquid with a score of 2-0 each.

The following day, they had to settle for a tie against TSM with a score of 1-1. OG wanted to finish the Group Stage without accepting defeat, but BOOM Esports managed to beat OG.

This record succeeded in making OG rank first in Group B. They managed to get a slot to play in the Upper Bracket against team Secret, 2nd place winner from Group A.

After losing to Team Secret in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, OG had to go through the Playoffs via the Lower Bracket. The first match for OG in the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals will be against Thunder Awaken.

On August 27, 2022, OG won the match with a score of 2:1. The draft of Thunder Awaken confused the audience and casters a lot, seeing that they chose Terrorblade as the last pick carry in the deciding game, namely the last game.

OG has heroes that tend to do AoE damage such as QoP, Earthshaker, and Ember Spirit. Even though he has seen the selection of OG heroes, Thunder Awaken still dares to choose Terrorblade, a hero who uses illusions.

As a result, OG won the last match and made it to the Lower Bracket Semifinal stage against Fnatic, a team whose entire roster comes from Southeast Asia or “SEA Last Hope”.

The Lower Bracket Semifinals were then won by OG with a score of 2:1. Even though Fnatic won the first game, OG managed to turn things around and win two games in one go.

After Fnatic, OG faced Team Secret. Without wasting time, OG won two straight games on the strength of the draft and in-game expertise. The second game only lasted 27 minutes, a fairly short duration.

The excitement of the Dota 2 tournament Grand Final never disappoints. OG managed to win the Grand Final against Team Aster with a landslide score of 3-0.

Even though Team Aster put up some spectacular plays and strong resistance, they still couldn't turn things around against OG.

In the third game, Team Aster showed their skills and managed to hold the advantage in the phase laning stages. However, OG started to turn things around mid game by successfully avoiding various gangs from Team Aster.

After that, OG's roster collaboration began to shine when late game and managed to win various team fights. The relatively fresh OG roster continues to put up a stronger fight and is supported by Evgenii “Chuvash” Makarov as a stand-in.

OG finally won another sizable tournament and took home a prize of $175,000 USD as the winner. ESL One Malaysia is the second ESL tournament that OG has won, having previously won ESL One Frankfurt in 2016.
