This game takes place in Vita-01, a research base for ancient bacteria called Martians located on Mars in 2019.

A three-person crew was assigned to investigate the cause of the base's signal loss for 10 months.

The gameplay of Martian Gothic: Unification focuses more on puzzle solving and exploration than combat.

Players can control three characters who are in separate places alternately, just like in the game Day of the Tentacle.
