This mechanism opens up the opportunity for the best-performing teams in the current year's MSC to compete again in the following year.

MLBB Defender Title Mechanism

Moonton, through its official statement, explained that the “Title Defender” mechanism consists of two components, namely:

Defender Title Direct Slot

Well, the reigning MSC Champion of the current year will automatically get a slot on the Main Stage at the next MSC.

For example, the defending champion of the 2027 MSC will immediately receive a Main Stage slot at the 2028 MSC without regional qualification.

So the champion's home region will get an additional slot on the Main Stage.

If the defending champions secure a spot in the Main Stage through their respective regional qualifying path, the direct slot will be transferred to the next-ranked team from the same region.

MSC Runner-up Wild Card Slot

Furthermore, the runner-up of the previous MSC will receive a Wild Card slot or equivalent entry into the next MSC through the existing Wild Card scheme. This slot will not reduce the Main Stage quota.

If the runner-up successfully qualifies for the Main Stage through regional qualification, the Wild Card slot will be transferred to the next-ranked team from the same region.

The “Title Defender” mechanism will be implemented evenly across all regions within the MSC global tournament coverage and will begin to be implemented at MSC 2027.

Global Head of MLBB Esports MOONTON Games, Tiger Xu, stated that the provisions and slot allocations for subsequent editions will be evaluated and adjusted according to the development of the competitive ecosystem.

For example, said Tiger Xu, in the UEFA Champions League the defending champion is guaranteed a place in the next season's competition so he can defend his title on the biggest stage.

Similarly, at The Masters golf tournament, previous champions and top-performing players are invited back to compete as a token of appreciation for their performance. Starting next year, the MSC will follow this tradition.
