What is the Lane Matchmaking Feature?

As an opening, it would be good to touch on the details of this system first. That way, the Land of Dawn players can follow this discussion well, without exception.

For those who may not understand, lane matchmaking is a developer-made system to manage the matchmaking algorithm in competitive games – especially in the MOBA genre.

In context MLBB itself, actually this system is not a new innovation made by Moonton. There have been several other MOBA games that have implemented it first.

In general, players also gave a very good reception to this system because it helps reduce dark systems and creates an ideal gaming environment.

And because of the competitive climate between games, Moonton see this as a “latent threat” if they also don’t “FOMO” and adapt it to their flagship game.

Micro, Meso, and Macro Lane Matchmaking Features of MLBB

Now let's go straight into the main discussion, namely the mechanics of the MLBB lane matchmaking feature. Please read the following review carefully:

Micro Lane Matchmaking Features

At the beginning, you will start each match (when creating a room, either solo or party) by choosing a lane first. You can check the one that suits your preference.

Ideally you need to select two roles (one of your original roles, and one secondary role). However, you can also check all of them by pressing the “Select All” option.

When the game starts and enters the ban and pick phase, players also cannot just change lanes. You have to submit it to the teammate who already holds that lane.

This is the same as submitting a hero swap (after making a pick), only it applies to the lane. You can change it by pressing the “Swap Lanes” button in the other player menu.

When it is your turn to choose a hero, the system will also automatically group heroes that are suitable for your chosen lane. Or you can also choose another hero via the “All Lanes” tab.

Now, what is also no less important, you must understand how your lane choice can affect the way the system's algorithm determines opponents during matchmaking.

You should also consider your friends' role preferences. That way, the system will minimize role collisions. Remember, this only applies to parties of 2-3 players.

Example of the image above: the VCGamers party consists of three people with role preferences, namely Jungler, Goldlaner, and Roamer. See how the player "mixes" the side role options.

S1 (Jungler) chooses Roamer for the side option, S2 (Goldlaner) also chooses the Jungler option, then S3 (Roamer) also chooses the Goldlaner option. This is not just random.

By balancing the side roles according to team preferences, the system will become more confident that we no longer need those roles: looking for publics according to the missing roles.
