Sugeng Rahayu's Profile

PT. Selamat Sugeng Rahayu or Sumber Group is an Indonesian bus company from East Java based in Krian District, Sidoarjo, precisely on Jl. Raya Surabaya – Ngawi km 25, Sidorejo, Krian, Sidoarjo, East Java. and was founded in 1981 by the Setyaki Sasongko family.

Initially, this PO used the name Sumber Kencono and was developed as Sumber Group with the brand names Sumber Selamat, Sugeng Rahayu, Golden Star and SR Express.

Sumber Selamat and Sugeng Rahayu focus on intercity buses, Golden Star on tourist buses and SR Express on goods delivery (courier) services.

The Setyaki Sasongko family founded this bus company in 1981. In the early days of its operations, it only operated 6 buses serving the Surabaya – Yogyakarta route with Economy class service to attract passengers.

Initially, Setyaki entrusted all his buses to be operated by Kentjono, a Jember-based bus company. After applying for a public transportation permit from the East Java Transportation Agency, he finally adopted the name "Sumber Kencono.".

Sumber Kencono finally operates the Surabaya – Yogyakarya, Surabaya – Badegan, Surabaya – Wonogiri and Surabaya – Semarang routes.

The name Sumber Kencono means "Golden Source," reflecting Setyaki's hope that his bus company would continue to generate profits. Eventually, Sumber Kencono was dubbed the "King of the Road" because its fleet of buses was frequently used by land transportation users.

Throughout the 1980s, Sumber Kencono became increasingly popular with frequent travelers. Its operations offered two types of service: non-air-conditioned economy class and air-conditioned economy class, with affordable fares.

As of 2011, this bus company had a fleet of 255 units, consisting of 230 regular buses and 22 reserve buses. This number made it one of the largest bus companies in East Java.

On July 14, 2011, 80 Sumber Kencono buses changed their name to Sumber Selamat. These buses are equipped with GPS which is connected to a speed monitoring system to monitor the driver.

Then in 2013, this bus company launched a new brand name, namely Sugeng Rahayu, which means "Prosperous" or "Far from Disaster".

This brand was introduced and used in 2012 to replace several fleets that still used the Sumber Kencono name and of course came with red and yellow colors to differentiate it from its predecessors.

Eventually, the brand was managed by a company called PT Selamat Sugeng Rahayu, led by Hartono Sasongko.

Then in 2014, Sugeng Rahayu expanded its route services by releasing the Patas class on the routes Surabaya – Yogyakarta, Surabaya – Semarang, Surabaya – Yogyakarta – Bandung, Jember – Mojosari – Purworejo – Cilacap, Surabaya – Parakan – Wonosobo – Purbalingga, Surabaya – Purworejo – Surwokerto, Surabaya – Purworejo – Cilacap, Surabaya – Purworejo – Purwokerto – Bumiayu, Surabaya – Solo – Semarang – Kuningan, Surabaya – Solo – Semarang – Indramayu and Surabaya – Solo – Semarang – Cirebon and finally to Pamanukan.

Kencono Source uses a front engine chassis manufactured by the Chinese manufacturer, the powerful Dongfeng EQ6120KSD.

For AC buses from Sumber Group, they use front engine chassis such as Hino AK8 A215 and Mercedes-Benz OF 1623. Meanwhile, for the Patas class, they run rear engine buses such as Hino (RK R260 and RN 285) and Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 with air suspension.

The Sumber Selamat and Sugeng Rahayu economy classes used Langgeng Jaya bodies. This led to the creation of the "Jetbus 3+" front-engine, a modified version of the Laksana body. The Sugeng Rahayu economy class buses then used the Laksana (Discovery SR-3) body, while the non-economy class buses used the original Adi Putro Jetbus.

The Sumber Group's distinctive feature is the mayang lamp on the roof. It also features an iconic split windshield and a gray body with red and dark blue stripes, typical of Sumber Selamat.

For Sugeng Rahayu, it uses gray with a combination of blue and red with dolphin images, gray and dark blue with a star pattern. Meanwhile, for non-economy classes, it uses red with a yellow star pattern.

For economy class, it is equipped with facilities such as air conditioning, TV, seating 2 – 3, LED interior lights, light fire extinguisher (APAR) and emergency glass breaker hammer.

Meanwhile, the Patas or Fast class uses 2-2 seating, drinking water, toilets and meal services.
