Gore Anime Fans, Here's the Correct Order to Watch Berserk!

Watching order Berserk is still one of the keywords that is quite often searched by gore anime fans.

The reason is, this legendary anime does not only rely on bloody scenes, but offers a story that is no less exciting to watch.

Beserk itself is a manga by Kentaro Miura which was adapted into an anime series in 1997 by studio OLM.

Synopsis of Berserk

Berserk is set in a fantasy world inspired by medieval Europe and follows the story of a sword wielder named Guts.

Since his mother died, Guts has been cared for by a greedy and mercenary captain named Gambino.

When he was finally freed from Gambino, he became a wandering warrior whose powers caught the attention of Griffith, the leader of a group of hitmen, the Band of the Hawk.

When he managed to find Guts, Griffith then challenged him to a duel on the condition that Guts would join his group if he lost.

Long story short, Guts was finally recruited. In just three years, the two of them dominated the battlefield, achieving victory after victory.

Despite their apparent invincibility, something is lurking in the shadows, secretly plotting a plan that could change Guts' life forever.

1. Berserk (1997)

Anime series The first Berserk tells the story of Guts' origins and his life as a swordsman who is ready to accept any job for money.

After catching the attention of Griffith, a leader of the notorious assassin group, Band of the Hawk, he is recruited as a member.

Winning fight after fight, Guts and Griffith become a nearly unbeatable swordsman duo.

2. Berserk: Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of The King (2012)

The first Berserk movie, which summarizes the story from the first animated series in 1997. Of course, with better and more detailed graphics.

Set in the Midland Kingdom, Guts chooses a life of conflict over a peaceful ordinary life. Wielding a sword larger than his body, he challenges anyone for money.

When finally defeated by Griffith, the mysterious leader of the Band of the Hawk mercenary group, Guts is forced to submit to his will.

Guts begins his new journey to serve Griffith and help his crew in defeating the Chudder empire.

3. Berserk: Golden Age Arc II – The Battle For Dolrey (2012)

The Battle for Dolrey is the second movie in the Berserk series, which was also released in 2012, like the first movie.

After winning battle after battle, the reputation of the Band of the Hawk and their leader began to spread throughout the Midland region.

Their latest task is to conquer Doldrey Fortress, a mission that previous people have always failed to complete.

With Guts and Griffith in the group, this task was easily accomplished. Unfortunately, after the mission was completed, Guts decided to leave the Band of the Hawk.

Despite Griffith's attempts to dissuade him, Guts remains steadfast in his decision. This then triggers the leader to lose himself and make a decision that changes Hawk's destiny forever.

4. Berserk: Golden Age Arc III – The Advent (2013)

Released one year later, this third movie tells the emotional story of the reunion between Guts and Griffith.

Now led by Casca, the Band of the Hawk, once the saviors of Midland, are fugitives.

They tried to survive as best they could while thinking of a plan to free Griffith who had previously been arrested on charges of treason.

Despite being saved, Griffith is not the charismatic leader they once knew.

After a year of relentless torture, he could no longer walk, talk, or even hold his sword.

Griffith has nothing but an object called the Crimson Behelit that refuses to leave his body.

The object offers a choice that will ultimately condemn the Band of the Hawk to drown in blood and haunt them for the rest of their lives.

5. Berserk Season 2 (2016 – 2017)

Season two of this anime is divided into two parts, the first part was released in 2016 while the second part was released in 2017.

After being destined to die and hunted by various demons until the day he dies, Guts begins his adventure to fight that fate.

Determined to take revenge on a man he once admired and was a close friend, Guts takes up his Dragonslayer sword.

In the first part of the animated series, you will follow Guts' journey meeting various interesting characters who will join him in his revenge mission.

Returning with the second part in 2017, the Midland Kingdom is now falling into ruin with the emergence of various demons.

Guts himself cannot stay in one place for a long time because of the devil mark that is attached to him.

Even though he could always protect himself when alone, now Guts decides to protect Casca who now can't remember or trust him.

While moving to heal Casca, Guts and his new companions must avoid being hunted by demons.

6. Anime Berserk: Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition (2022)

First shown at Aniplex Online Fest 2022, the Golden Arc – Memorial Edition marks the finale of the Berserk anime series.

Unlike the previous three films in the trilogy, this version has been re-edited, featuring popular scenes from “Bonfire of Dreams” as well as several new scenes and music.
