Dark is one of 18 types of Pokemon. Each Pokemon can have one to two element types. This type was first introduced in Generation II together with the Steel type.

Until Generation IX, there were 82 Dark-type Pokemon with a percentage of 8,04% of all Pokemon.

This number includes Pokemon that are both pure and mixed Dark types, including their Mega Evolution forms.

With this number, Dark type Pokemon together with Poison type are in the 8th position as the most common Pokemon type after Fire type and before Fighting type.

Since it was first introduced, this Pokemon has had 7 of the most famous trainers in each generation, such as Karena in Generation II and Giacomo in Generation IX.

Weaknesses and Counters For Pokemon Dark

Dark-type Pokemon are weak against Fighting, Fairy, and Bug types. The attacks launched from these three types of Pokemon can be very effective against Dark types.

Pokemon with the Fighting type have attacks that are quite effective against Dark types. You can use a combination of Dynamic Punch and Close Combat to use in battle.

Apart from being effective against Pokemon with the Dark type, attacks from the Fighting type are also very effective in fighting against Pokemon with the Ice, Normal, Rock and Steel types.

This type is one of the strongest types of Pokemon, this is because most of them have the highest Attack stats.

Due to the lower number of Pokemon compared to the Fighting and Fairy types, not many people use the Bug type.

However, Bug type Pokemon also have effective attack combinations to defeat Dark types such as Bug Buzz and X-Scissor.

You can try using the following recommended Bug type Pokemon:

  • Slither Wing (Bug and Fighting type)
  • Scizor (Bug and Steel type)
  • Volcarona (Bug and Fire types)
  • Golisopod (Bug and Water type)
