As previously mentioned, Break Effect will not speed up the decrease in the enemy's Toughness Bar (the white bar above the enemy's HP bar that serves as the enemy's DEF).

The function of the new Break Effect will be seen when the Toughness Bar runs out and the enemy gets a Weakness Break.

The DMG obtained from this Weakness Break will be multiplied by the Break Effect to get additional DMG besides the basic DMG.

So, by definition a Break Effect is a stat that can multiply or increase the DMG given by a character if the enemy has received a Weakness Break.

The function of this Break Effect stat is very much, especially to increase or multiply DMG.

When the enemy's Toughness Bar runs out, a new Break Effect will take effect. There are 3 functions that Break Effect stats will give to characters.

First is increases DMG from initial Break DMG. You can see that after the Toughness Bar runs out, there is a DMG that says "Break".

The amount of DMG can be increased by increasing the character's Break Effect stat.

The second function is magnify DMG DoT (Damage over Time) when the enemy is in a Weakness Break state (the enemy's turn is skipped because the Toughness Bar runs out).

The Break Effect will take effect except for characters using Imaginary elements such as Welt.

Enlarging Delay Speed on enemies affected by Quantum and Imaginary elemental attacks is the last function of Break Effect.

Speed or SPD is a very important stat to speed up the character's turn to attack.

Delay Speed on the other hand is a debuff that functions to slow down the enemy's movement so that the enemy has a longer turn than your party to attack.

How the Honkai Star Rail Break Effect Works

The new Stat Break Effect will be active when the Toughness Bar is active and the enemy gets a Weakness Break.

As a multiplier, Break Effect will increase Initial DMG so Break DMG is:

Break DMG = Base DMG x Element Multiplier x (1+Break Effect%)

Base DMG is the amount of basic DMG that each character has depending on the character's level or is called the Level Multiplier.

Each character has the same Level Multiplier. However, the amount of DMG will be influenced by the scale for calculating character abilities, for example ATK, HP, etc.

The Element Multiplier is a number variable that is determined by the type of element the character uses.

Each element has a different multiplier which affects Weakness Breaks such as Bleed, Burn, Freeze, and others.

How to Increase the Damage from Break Effect

You can increase the damage from the Break Effect stat. Of course, an increase in the percentage of Break Effect will further increase the DMG such as from DoT and DMG in general that is generated by the character.

Currently there are no characters that have an increased Break Effect from the character's ascension.

It is possible that there will be characters that automatically get an increased Break Effect from ascension.

Currently Break Effect can be obtained from 3 ways, namely: Eidolon, Relics, and Light Cone.

The character who gets the Break Effect enhancement from Eidolon for now is Sushang.

Sushang's Eidolon 1 (E(1)) can increase Sushang's Break Effect by 15%.

Lightcones that have additional Break Effects, for example, are Fermata (Light Cone path Nihility) and Memories of the Past (Light Cone path Harmony).

Both types of relics, both the Cavern of Corrosion and Planar Ornament, also have relics that can provide bonus Break Effects.

Thief of the Shooting Meteor which is a relic of the Cavern of Corrosion and Talia: Kingdom of Banditry (Planar Ornament) can provide a substantial additional Break Effect.
