Open Worlda in GTA 5 great, but it's 10 years old and many titles have surpassed it since then. However, there are few games that can beat this game.
GTA 5 has one of the largest and most detailed open world maps of any game. However, when it comes to actual map size, the game falls short of some. While size isn't the determining factor most of the time, quantity is a quality in itself.
In this article, VCGamers will feature the top 5 games with a bigger open world map than GTA 5.
List of the Best Games Apart from GTA 5
For those of you who are bored with the GTA 5 game and want to try exploring a new open world, please play some of the games below.
The Crew
The open world is the best part of this game. It's so beautiful, it's big and you can literally drive for hours. It takes about an hour to drive from one side of the map to the other.
You can choose the highway route or the offroad path. Obviously, with stairs, it takes more time, but it's still very rewarding and challenging to traverse the map.
Very good variety of environments. You have swamps, dunes, forests, mountains, deserts, salt flats, villages, canyons, everything. It is possible to drive around for hours and not get bored with the map. However, outside of the maps mentioned above, The Crew is average game at best.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is a masterpiece in its class, surpassing its predecessor in more than one way. From crazy graphics, improved AI to an all new immersive mode (which lets you choose how to play).
Much like Wildlands, Breakpoint offers tons of character customization, from appearance to clothing, weaponry, and even a skill leveling system that's strong enough with all the makings of it to turn you into the ultimate Ghost warrior.
The graphics are great for an open world game, with so many environments like rainforests, snowy mountains, deserts, huge meadows, swamps and even salt fields. The gameplay this time is made more of a solo experience, you have to go through their first solo game with immersive mode on.
Final Fantasy 15
While Final Fantasy 15 has many flaws in the story department, it is a star on the visual and gameplay fronts. This game looks beautiful and there is so much attention to detail in the animations and character models.
The world is really cool and fun to explore. Final Fantasy often mixes classic fantasy and light science fiction elements to create engaging worlds, and FF15 is no exception.
A lot of thought went into making the open world a joy to watch. JRPGs road-trip is a new idea and delivers on that premise.
When combat does work, it's simple but visually weighty and satisfying. Teleporting between enemies is fun and you have an arsenal of varied attacks to switch between.
There are also summons, set-pieces and boss battles. It's mostly really cool and memorable. Fighting a Titan or Leviathan, summoning Ramuh for the first time, or any of the other massive set pieces that look and feel fantastic.
Just Cause 3
Just Cause 3 is the most ridiculous, preposterous and unrealistic journey of destruction since “Red Faction: Guerrilla”. This is for FarCry-Series like “Saints Row” is for “GTA”: a weird but fun parody.
The story isn't why people buy Just Cause 3. The plot is a bit lame and even the developers say it's more of a sandbox based game and that the story just helps players get ideas of things they can.
The graphics are outstanding for a game of its time, the bright colors and hues of the area really remind players of a region in the south of Europe. The stunning terrain is supported by an ambient soundtrack that adapts to the situation you find yourself in.
Gameplay-wise, Just Cause 3 really feels complete with tons of side missions and encounters, gear and collectible mods, and all the vehicles that you can find and use at your own discretion with the clever ideas of the rebels.
The maps are filled with great terrain and features that players can experiment with, and the controls feel realistic and snappy.

Death Stranding
This game takes one of the worst ideas you could possibly have. Traveling from one point to another, delivering packages for tens of hours. And making it one of the most engaging experiences I've ever had in a game. The best part about Death Stranding is the world.
There are two main open areas that you can walk through. They are so intricate and well designed, that even though most of them are “just” wide open green fields and mountains, you never get tired and still want to see it all.
Gameplay-wise, for the most part, you're left alone, with not much fanfare around, to explore this landscape at your own pace.
Death Stranding takes the element of traversal and makes it one of the core elements of the game: Being aware of how the terrain is around, planning clever routes, and using the right equipment to traverse the toughest areas of the game becomes quite addicting after a while.

You have to keep your balance and use the tools that you can make, such as ladders, climbing ropes and more. Simple things like passing hills, mountains and rivers feel like an accomplishment.
