If you've been following the story of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, you've likely heard the term shinjutsu frequently. This technique is described as the highest level of all jutsu ever created in the Shinobi world. Even ninjutsu, once considered extraordinary, seems mediocre compared to it.

Shinjutsu literally means "Divine Technique." It is a high-level technique or art form primarily used by the Ōtsutsuki Clan. Unlike most ninjutsu, this jutsu does not require hand movements or chakra control. It can be activated solely by the user's intention or will.

This is why the Otsotsuki's jutsu is considered the power of the gods. For ordinary shinobi, this technique is nearly impossible to replicate because the human body is not designed to access god-level power.

Many people still misunderstand shinjutsu as simply a more powerful version of ninjutsu. However, the concepts are quite different. Ninjutsu still requires chakra, training, and hand signs, while Ototsuki's jutsu transcends all of these boundaries.

Not all rare Kekkei Genkai or Dōjutsu can be categorized as Shinjutsu. Only certain abilities are truly god-level, making someone like Shibai Otsutsuki appear incredibly overpowered even without engaging in direct combat.

Shinjutsu and Rinnegan similarities

This is where the discussion gets interesting. It's fair to say the Rinnegan and Rinne Sharingan are shinjutsu, but many fans are still unsure whether the Sharingan is considered one.

The Rinnegan is described as the eye of the gods, the source of various extraordinary abilities such as controlling gravity, summoning beings from other dimensions, and even reviving the dead. All of these abilities are far too complex to be considered mere ninjutsu.

Meanwhile, the Sharingan is more accurately described as a weaker version of the Rinnegan in the Shinobi world. It still requires chakra and develops through extreme emotions. This is why Black Zetsu was so proud of Madara Uchiha's successful Rinnegan manifestation. The Rinnegan is not simply an evolution of the eye, but a symbol of achieving near-shinjutsu power.

Despite its extraordinary abilities, the Sharingan still has limitations. Users can still become exhausted, run out of chakra, and even lose their sight. This demonstrates that the Sharingan is still bound by the laws of the human world.

Unlike shinjutsu, which operates outside the chakra system, the Sharingan relies on its user's biological mechanisms. Therefore, while powerful, the Sharingan cannot be fully compared to the Ōtsutsuki's divine techniques.

Examples of Shinjutsu that Have Emerged

Some of the jutsu that have been shown in Boruto include:

• Daikokuten: The technique of storing objects in a frozen time dimension.
• Sukunahikona: Instantly shrink an object or yourself.

All these techniques do not require hand signs and do not follow normal ninjutsu logic.

Shinjutsu is the pinnacle of power in the worlds of Naruto and Boruto, far surpassing ninjutsu, genjutsu, and ordinary dōjutsu. The Rinnegan and Rinne Sharingan are closely related to the concept of shinjutsu, while the Sharingan is still a level below.
