History of Steam Machines

Actually, the Steam Machine isn't something completely new. Before announcing the 2025 version, Valves also released this product a few years ago!
Yep, this happened even before the Steam Deck was released, in 2015 to be precise. This was the starting point for the developer to continue innovating and finally dare to "take the plunge."
At that time, Valve was still "testing the waters" by collaborating with several manufacturers: collaborating and labeling their designed devices with the name Steam Machine.
This move was certainly a plus for Valve, considering they didn't start with hardware development. It's understandable that their product was considered a market failure at the time.
This is largely due to the lack of a robust software base and the lack of established trends. But at least it can serve as a portfolio for the future.
Indeed, success comes to those who are willing to learn. Based on the experience they gain, they then try their luck again through... Steam Decks – and it worked!
This is what ultimately became the trigger for them to fully dedicate themselves and join the "holy field" of the console war that has been going on for a long time.
Steam Machine Specifications

So far, Valve has not released the full specifications. However, as reported by the channel YouTube IGN, Steam's latest console will be powered by the RDNA 3 GPU made by amd.
From these "innards", Valve boldly claims that the Steam Machine's power will be equivalent to the RTX 4060/RX 7600M – six times more powerful than the Steam Deck!
In addition to that information, several other specifications can also be seen from the form factor they've revealed. Here, VCGamers summarizes some of them:
- Official SteamOS
- 4K graphics target with upscaling
- Fast suspend and resume
- Can be a desktop PC
- Developer support regular updates
- Notifications
- Compatible with various controllers
- Direct access to the Steam Store
- Cloud-based storage
- Social system with friends list and Steam Chat features
- Remote Play Feature
- 1x SD Card Slot
- 4x USB Type A Port
- 1x USB Type C Port
- 1x GbE Port
- 1x DisplayPort 1.4
- 1x HDMI Port
Steam Machine Price and Release

Not much different, both of these details are still being kept under wraps by Valve. So far, we know that they're preparing this console for 2026.
And reported from the page ign, Valve officials also said that the price they are pricing will also be very competitive – considering the current economic conditions.
For this reason, many parties believe that they should at least price the Steam Machine below the USD 1000 range, or more precisely around 800 (around IDR 13.3 million).
So, if you're interested in buying this console right on release day, it's best to start saving now – just in case Steam ends up charging a higher price.
