In the future, Earth is no longer habitable, forcing humanity to flee in massive colony fleets in search of habitable planets.

To support the fleets and colonies they would build, humanity also created plants, artificial organic lifeforms that could produce limitless clean energy.

In one of the colony fleets, two brothers named Vash and Knives were born with a special connection to plants and were cared for by a woman named Rem Saverem.

However, the system computer The colony fleet suddenly experiences a breakdown, causing the entire fleet to crash-land on the barren planet of Noman's Land.

Rem sacrifices herself to save Vash and Knives, but Vash is horrified to learn that Knives is responsible for the disaster, as he attempted to kill all humans for exploiting the plants.

Years later, the surviving members of the colony fleet have built several cities on the surface of Noman's Land, relying entirely on plants to survive the hostile conditions.

Now an adult, Vash wanders the wasteland aimlessly, having been branded a dangerous criminal nicknamed “Vash the Stampede” or “Humanoid Cyclone”, while Knives continues his plans and earns the nickname “Million Knives”.

As Vash tries to find a way to peacefully resolve the differences between humans and plants, he meets investigative reporters Meryl Stryfe and Roberto De Niro, marking the starting point of a new adventure for the three of them.
