Tomioka Giyu's Background

Tomioka Giyu had a far from happy childhood. He was orphaned after his family was murdered by a demon. This loss left a deep scar and changed his life from an early age.
Before getting married, Giyu's older sister, Tsutako Tomioka, was willing to sacrifice her life to save her younger brother from a demon attack.
Tsutako's sacrifice remains a moment that will forever remain in Giyu's heart. From then on, he felt compelled to live to honor his sister's sacrifice and protect others from a similar fate.
Following the tragedy, Giyu trains to become a Demon Slayer under the guidance of Sakonji Urokodaki, the former Water Hashira. There, he meets Sabito, who later becomes his best friend and rival. The two train together for the Final Selection.
