Who is Istaroth in the Game Genshin Impact?

The Four Shades first appeared in the video “Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: The God's Limit” which showed the true form of 3 of the 4 Four Shades.

The Four Shades are also known as the Four Great Rulers, namely the gods who serve or are directly under the Heavenly Principles, Descender or also known as the Primordial One who currently rules Teyvat.

The four Four Shades, namely Asmoday (Ruler of Space), Naberius (Ruler of Life), Ronova (Ruler of Death), and Istaroh herself, are specifically representatives of the Heavenly Principles who maintain the 'rules' in Teyvat.

Apart from being representatives of the Heavenly Principles, the Four Shades also have the task of fighting the Nibelungs, the dragons who previously ruled Teyvat.

The Four Shades are also worshiped as gods in Teyvat, before the Archons or The Seven guided humans.

This god of our time was once worshipped in various parts of Teyvat starting from Mondstadt, Inazuma, Nod-Krai, to the old Liyue civilization, namely Lan Gan.

Mondstadt

Istaroth is one of the gods worshipped along with the Anemo Archon, Barbatos.

If you have done the Quest from Nameless Island, an island that is not on the map and is right next to Mondstadt, you will know the relationship and lore regarding these two Gods.

Before becoming an Archon, Barbatos, or perhaps known as Venti, gained power when he met at the Thousand Winds Temple.

It was this power that enabled Barbatos to win the war against Decarabia, who imprisoned the people of Mondstadt at that time.

The people of Mondstadt who were freed from Decarabia built a new Mondstadt and worshipped Istaroth along with Barbatos as their gods.

However, his existence and the people began to worship only Barbatos during the internal war between the aristocrats and the common people of Mondstadt.

Belief in and the existence of Istaroth eventually faded as these aristocrats concealed Mondstadt's history, including Istaroth's existence. This led to the waning of faith in one of the Four Shades.

Lang Gan

In Lang-Gan, Istaroth is closely related to Zibai.

Lang-Gan itself is one of the ancient civilizations in Liyue which is currently known as The Chasm.

This area was destroyed after the Celestial Nail fell. It is also a follower who believes in Zibai as their god.

If you played the Lantern Rite event some time ago, of course you know that Zibai, the god believed in by the Lang-Gan people.

Zibai, who is an angel, was appointed by the Four Shades as a representative for the 3 Moon Sisters and was placed in Lang-Gan.

When the Celestial Nail destroyed Lang-Gan, Zibai sacrificed himself. Istaroth then intervened, splitting Zibai's soul into three pieces to prevent it from being destroyed.

Inazuma and Enkanomiya

In Inazuma, our God of Time is active in the modern world, helping Raiden Makoto (the twin of Raiden EI or Raiden Shogun Now).

Ei and Yae Miko speculate that Istaroth is helping Makoto develop the Sacred Sakura, which is known to prevent the power of the Abyss from entering the Inazuma Ley Line.

Enkanomiya itself is an underground area in Inazuma which we now know as Watatsumi Island.
