Marley was originally a powerful nation in ancient times; however, approximately 2,000 years ago, an Eldian slave named Ymir acquired the power of a Titan.

King Fritz used his abilities to defeat Marley and force them to surrender.

A Marleyan tried to kill Fritz several years after their defeat, but Ymir saved him by sacrificing herself and killing him.

After Ymir's death, her power was shared and passed down to her descendants in the form of the Nine Titans, who later founded the Eldian Empire.

Using Titans, the Eldians waged war against Marley and many other nations, destroying them and gaining complete control of the continent's landmass. This is considered the beginning of the Dark Age.

Eventually, the Eldian Empire began to run out of enemies, and the nine noble families possessing Titan powers began to envy each other, creating a constant state of bloodshed. This ultimately sparked the Great Titan War.

According to Marleyan legend, a legendary Marleyan hero named Helos turned the tide of war in his people's favor by manipulating the Eldians into opposing each other, allowing Marley to gain victory in the war and even successfully acquire seven of the Nine Titans that Eldia possessed.

The first of these Titans was the War Hammer Titan, owned by the Tybur family, who had defected from their king and joined the Marley rebellion.

Then Marley gradually succeeded in taking over the mainland that was once controlled by Eldia until only Paradis Island remained as the undisputed territory of King Karl Fritz.

In 743, King Fritz moved as many Eldians as possible to Paradis Island and used Founding Titan to direct a number of Colossal Titans in the construction of three concentric walls around the remaining Eldian territory.

To force peace between Eldia and Marley, King Fritz issued an ultimatum that any further acts of war against Eldia would be met with the release of the Titans within the Walls. With this, the Great Titan War ended.

However, the truth is that Eldia's defeat in the Great Titan War was actually planned by Karl Fritz himself, who felt sorry for the oppressed people of Marley.

Deeming the sins of the Eldians too great to justify his rule, he allied himself with the Tybur family and manipulated the other families into opposing each other, in order to destroy his own kingdom and restore Marley to power.

To that end, both the Tybur family and King Fritz forged Helos to facilitate the myth that the Marleyans themselves won the war.

After the collapse of the Eldian Empire, the remaining Eldians on the mainland would be forced into internment zones, where they would be treated as second-class citizens.

The Marleyans then became an expansionist nation with colonial policies and utilized the power of the Titans to become a world superpower.

With the Titan powers possessed by the Warrior Unit, a select group of Eldians who serve Marley, Marley attacks various neighboring countries, annexing them, and incorporating them into its vast colonial empire.

Marley then realized that the Titan Power was not enough to maintain its position as world leader in an era where military power was powered by fuel, and began to turn its attention to Paradis Island which was said to have large reserves of fossil fuels.

However, the island is also home to the remnants of the once-powerful Eldian empire, led by the Fritz family who possessed the Founding Titan.

In 845, Marley launched Operation Paradis Island. Four Titans were sent to the island to infiltrate the Eldian kingdom and retrieve the Founding Titan.

The operation ended in failure with the Colossus Titan and the Female Titan lost, Marcel Galliard killed on the first day of the operation, and the Founding Titan remaining in enemy hands.

Only Reiner Braun came back alive from this operation, nearly having his Titan transferred to another Soldier due to his defeat on Paradis Island.

Here is the strongest Marley Military lineup in AOT:

Eren Kruger

Eren Kruger is actually a Titan Shifter who inherited the power of the Attack Titan. However, he disguises himself as "Owl," a key figure behind the Eldian Restorationist rebel faction that seeks to overthrow the Marleyan government.

Until Grisha Yeager was caught and was about to be punished as a Pure Titan, Eren saved him by giving Grisha the Attack Titan power.

Eren Kruger passed on his fighting spirit to the person he trusted so much.

Annie Leonhart

Annie Leonhart grew up to be a powerful fighter, making her one of the valuable assets of the Marley Military.

Annie inherited the power of the Female Titan and participated in the Operation Paradis mission. She infiltrated the Survey Corps.

And at the end of the story he fights together to stop the Rumbling and becomes a hero.

Bertholdt Hoover

Bertholdt Hoover wields the power of the Colossal Titan. He is the mastermind behind the initial destruction of Paradis, destroying the walls and allowing the Pure Titans to enter the settlement.

Even though he was eventually killed and his Titan power fell into Armin's hands, Bertholdt had created damage and caused many deaths in Paradis.

Reiner Braun

Reiner He was not initially the prime candidate to inherit the Armored Titan, but he proved himself worthy.

Reiner infiltrated the Operation Paradis mission with Bertholdt and Annie, contributing to countless major disasters.

However, at the end of the Attack on Titan story, Reiner allied with the remaining Survey Corps soldiers in thwarting the Rumbling.

Zeke Yeager

Zeke Yeager can be said to be the strongest Marley Military soldier, or more precisely the Warrior who inherited the Beast Titan.

Moreover, there is royal blood flowing in his body, so his Titan has advantages that are almost similar to the Founding Titan.

Not only is Zeke strong, but he's also intelligent. He manipulated many people into joining his side, helping him carry out his personal missions, seeing himself as the Eldians' last hope.

However, Zeke was ultimately deceived by his own half-brother, Eren Yeager.
