Initially, Foreman Spike first appeared in a video game with the title "wrecking crew", which is one of the games in the Super Mario Bros. franchise.

In this game, he is one of the antagonist characters that players have to fight. Because he couldn't hit Mario directly, Spike used his skills as a foreman who had worked in construction for a long time to attack Mario using a wall.

The only way for you to defeat him, is to trap him between several walls, and lock him with cement there.

Spike is described as “the angry foreman” from the construction site where Mario and Luigi are working.

He was the leader who supervised the two of them there. Spike doesn't like them, especially Mario.

While working, he always tries to annoy Mario, in order to get wages from the construction himself.

Even though he was very famous when he first appeared, until now, he has never appeared again in any game, as the main antagonist, such as in the game Wrecking Site.

His character was relegated to a cameo, after Wario and Waluigi were more popular as main antagonists, than him.

Vicigers can still see him in some games, where he has a cameo, like wrecking crew 98, mario golf, mario maker, super smash bros, or wario ware.

Apart from that, you can also meet him in the latest Mario film, namely The Super Mario Bros Movie.

After briefly appearing in various Nintendo franchises, Spike finally returned as the antagonist in the film "The Super Mario Bros Movie" which aired in April 2023.

Before broadcast, Spike also received several updates. Like naming and getting several design reworks.

Before “Foreman Spike” he was known as ブラッキー (Burakki, “Blackie”). The name was changed through an announcement made by Nintendo Japan, via a tweet on their official X account, for no apparent reason.

There was a lot of speculation circulating, a few days after the announcement, many fans exchanged opinions regarding the news.

On average, they suspect that the name "Blackie" is considered offensive, because it describes a group that often receives similar greetings, in the United States, not to mention throughout the world.

In order to prevent controversy, in the end the name was changed to "Foreman Spike" as we now know it.

Reworked several times

Spike has had several design reworks. The first in the wrecking crew 98 game series, which makes it even more lifelike, because of the 3D effects.

The next rework was carried out in 2001, in the mobile golf Mario game series for the Game Boy game console which was only available in Japan.

Finally, he got a rework on the big screen film Mario. He no longer wears purple clothes and rides a yellow tractor like in 2001, nor does he wear a thick, sleek mustache with brown leather clothes like in 1998.

Here, Spike is depicted as a construction owner in Brooklyn, where Mario and Luigi live, wearing a typical American work suit, bright blue.
