Hanzo, better known as Hanzo the Salamander, is the legendary leader of Amegakure (Rain Village). He is known for his extraordinary powers which make him respected by ninjas from big villages like Konoha, Iwagakure, and Sunagakure.

Hanzo first appears in the past storyline when Jiraya recounts how he and his two comrades, Tsunade and Orochimaru, was given the nickname “Legendary Sannin” by Hanzo for surviving the battle against him.

Hanzo earned the nickname “Salamander” because he had a giant salamander named Ibuse, which could spray poisonous gas onto the battlefield. This gas was so poisonous that he had to use a breathing apparatus for protection.

Hanzo's fighting ability is also very high. He is very fast, strong, and skilled in ninjutsu and taijutsu, making him a very difficult opponent to defeat. In fact, he is able to fight many enemies and still be able to stand tall.

In the Second Great Ninja War, Hanzo played a central role. He led the Amegakure army in the conflict that occurred in his village. Because of Amegakure's strategic location on the battlefield, Hanzo built his own military power.

The most epic moment of Hanzo's role in the war was how he faced three young ninjas from Konoha: Jiraiya, Tsundae, and Orochimaru.

The battle was very intense, the three young ninjas almost died. However, in the end, Hanzo decided not to kill them and instead honored them by giving them the title of "Sannin".

This decision signifies how high Hanzo's standards are for his opponent's strength, and also shows his honor as a warrior.

Even though Hanzo was a symbol of Amegakure's military strength, he eventually faced resistance from the group he previously supported, namely Akatsuki.

Initially, Hanzo saw Akatsuki as a threat to the political stability of Amegakure. Hanzo felt that Akatsuki (led by Yahiko, Jairaya's student) was too idealistic and could interfere with the interests of power.

Therefore, Hanzo conspired with Danzo of Konoha to destroy Akatsuki. In the trap, Yahiko chose to commit suicide to save Konan. This became a cruel and radical figure.

Pain, with the power of the Rinnegan, was finally able to take revenge and kill Hanzo and his entire family, ending Hanzo's era in Amegakure.

Hanzo in the Eyes of the Shinobi World

After his death, Hanzo was revived during the Fourth Great Ninja War through Kabuto's EdoTensei technique. However, during his resurrection, he admitted that he had become spiritually weak and had lost his way as a shinobi.

In his final moments, Hanzo cut off his own breathing apparatus as a form of repentance and acceptance of his death that should have come sooner.

Hanzo's Legacy

Hanzo is a classic example of a powerful character who eventually fell because he lost his way and became too afraid of losing his power. Although he was once a symbol of absolute power, his downfall is a lesson that power without direction and morality will lead to destruction.

As a figure who once brought the Legendary Sannin to their knees, Hanzo remains one of the characters who should be remembered for his influence on important characters such as Jiraiya and Pain.
