Background & Life Story

Chōso is one of the 9 Death Painting Wombs created by Noritoshi Kamo (Kenjaku) through cruel experiments on a woman named Misato (the biological mother of Chōso and his siblings). 

He and his two brothers (Eso & Kechizu) are imperfect human-curse hybrids, so they are considered "failures" by Kenjaku.  

After 150 years of “sleeping”, Chōso was revived by Kenjaku to help with his plans in Shibuya Incident Arc. 

However, after the fight with Yuji Itadori, memories were triggered, he thought Yuji was his younger brother because Kenjaku had once possessed Kaori Itadori's body (Yuji's mother).  

Powers & Abilities

Blood Manipulation (赤血操術, Sekketsu Sōjutsu)

• The Kamoyang Clan's inherited technique allows the user to control blood (one's own/opponent's) for attack/defense.  
• Main Attack:  

• Piercing Blood: A shot of blood at the speed of sound.  
• Flowing Red Scale: Increases speed & reflexes by flowing blood to the muscles.  
• Supernov: A wide radius explosion of blood.  

Cursed Energy & Physical Hybrid

• High endurance as a hybrid (stronger than humans, more intelligent than ordinary curses).  
• Can sense human emotions (rare for curses).

• Blood Loss: If blood runs out, his strength decreases drastically.

Name & Design:  

• “Chōso” (脹相) means “Swollen Face”, referring to the red lines on his face that resemble blood veins.  
• The design is inspired by Buddhist priests and Japanese yokai.  

Relationship with Yuji Itadori

• Memory Manipulation: Kenjaku intentionally triggers Chōso's false memories to make him think Yuji is his brother.  
• “Brotherly Bond”: Chōso was even willing to commit suicide for Yuji (while controlled by Kenjaku).  

Character Philosophy

• Chōso represents the theme of “Nature vs Nurture”: Although born as a monster, he has a human heart.  
• Iconic quote: “I am human… because I can love my brother.”
• Yūichi Nakamura (his voice actor) deliberately made Chōso's voice hoarse to reflect his suffering.
