VCGamers will open this discussion with a brief overview of the Divine Glaive, from its price, materials, to its attributes. This way, all Vicigers can understand the context.

Let's start with the category: mage items naturally fall into the Magic category. In the current meta, burst-type assassin-mages are the best fit.

Yes, this item can increase magic damage output – perfect for fighting heavy tanks/fighters. Heroes who are suitable for this item include: Gusion, Karina, Harleys, Kadita, and Selena.

The build path is simple: just one path! So, simply upgrade a few materials for a total of 1970 G, and you can get this item. Here are the details:

  • Magic Wand (820): upgrade from Mystery Codex
  • Mystery Codex (300 G)

This item is best purchased to fill slots 4 or 5, meaning from mid-game to late game. For a more detailed description of its attributes, here's VCGamers's review:

  • +65 Magic Power
  • Unique Attribute: +40% Magic Penetration
  • Unique Passive – Spellbreaker: When attacking an enemy hero, gains an additional 0.1% Magic Penetration for each point of magic defense, up to a maximum of 20%.

From here we can immediately understand that, in addition to providing magic penetration, the higher the enemy's magic defense, the greater the surplus effect of this item.

Well, now you definitely understand why this item is suitable for you to use against tanks and thick-bodied fighters who like to hoard magic defense.

Divine Glaive VS Genius Wand

Unlike the Attack category, which has combos (Trinity, Critical, etc.), this item can't be combined with other items. There is the Genius Wand, but in theory, it's not compatible.

This is because the Genius Wand itself has a "flat" penetration rate. Whereas, as we can see above, the Divine Glaive's penetration rate is based on a "percentage."

In practice, flat penetration will activate first. If you combine it with Divine Glaive, percentage penetration will only activate after the magic defense reduction from flat penetration is reduced.

For example, if the enemy has 100 magic defense, the Genius Wand will first reduce it by 19 magic defense (flat penetration will activate first).

From the remaining magic defense (81), then the penetration percentage of Divine Glaive is active (reduced by 60%). So the reduction is only about 48.6 magic defense.

Compare this to the initial 100 magic defense, if the Divine Glaive's effect were to be activated immediately. This means the reduction could reach 60 magic defense—a lot more!

That number certainly isn't worth sacrificing a slot for. It would be better to use that slot for Holy Crystal or Winter Truncheon.

Therefore, Genius Wand will be more suitable if you use it in the early to mid game (item slot 3), before the enemy's magic defense items are ready – considering its flat penetration.

So, when you enter the late game, you can sell the Genius Wand and replace it with Divine Glaive which is suitable for countering items like Athena's Shield or Radiant Armor.
