Getting to Know the Kingdom Hearts Franchise

In the midst of the chaos, Sora is uniquely able to awaken a Heartless-killing weapon called the Keyblade: a key-shaped sword that then becomes his signature weapon.

While chasing them, he accidentally encounters Goofy and Donald Duck, who are also unraveling the mystery of the Heartless. And so their adventure begins.

Main Storyline

Indeed, there have been numerous spin-off and prequel editions released under the Kingdom Hearts banner. However, the main storyline itself only reached its conclusion in the fourth installment.

However, due to the franchise's extensive media adaptations, there are no console exclusives for the main story. As a result, the plot encompasses nearly the entire lineup.

Square Enix Announces Kingdom Hearts 4

After six long years Square Enix After not releasing the latest KH sequel/prequel, finally in early June the devs announced Sora's latest adventure in Kingdom Hearts 4!

This is good news – following up on the teaser they promised on Kingdom Hearts' 20th anniversary. It's hard to believe that was four years ago.

And after waiting for almost half a decade, the latest trailer has been released, indicating that the developer has not forgotten the fans' anticipation for this veteran franchise.

In the trailer, which is approximately one and a half minutes long, the adventure will continue in the Lost Master arc which was "stopped" in the KH 3 and Melody of Memory series.

What's Seen in the Trailer

At the beginning of the trailer, we see the figure of Black Coat, this time resembling a woman. She sits casually observing the landscape on a high building.

He briefly explained the setting of the game's universe, which later became known as Quadratum. This is where the adventures and battles would take place.

In addition to new faces, the trailer also features many familiar characters from previous installments making a comeback – including Goofy and Donald Duck.

Visually, Unreal Engine 5's capabilities make this game look incredibly solid. So much so, in fact, that it looks even more like Final Fantasy!

Not only that, but besides retaining the old gameplay, Sora also appears to have a new mechanic. Yep, his Keyblade now features a sort of grappling hook!

Many believe that players will eventually be able to use this for traversal purposes—much like Spider-Man. So, this could be a sign that the open-world approach will return.

Release Date and Price

So far the trailer has not shown an exact release date for KH 4. However, the community is confident that the developers will still hold it until 2027.

Considering that the Kingdom Hearts franchise will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, it's certainly not something to miss.

As for pricing, there's no definitive information yet. However, based on previous releases, it's likely around USD 60 (IDR 1 million).
