  • EXP Chains: FFXI offers bonus EXP if you kill multiple enemies quickly. The more enemies you kill quickly, the more EXP will be rewarded as a bonus.
  • EXP Rings: FFXI might not feature wedding rings but it does offer items like the Empress Band and Emperor Bands that grant you a temporary EXP boost.
  • Trust System: This multiplayer system is intended for players who don't have any friends to play with. This system allows you to summon up to 5 players. NPCs to form a complete team and help you on your journey.

Leveling Areas by the Player’s Level

Players need to farm EXP in different areas according to their levels. The leveling areas according to their levels are listed below:

Level 1-10: Gustaberg and Sarutabaruta Ronfaure

These areas are unlocked at the start of the game and players won't have much difficulty accessing them as they are located just outside the main city.

Some areas that you would need to focus on are:

  • San d'Oria
  • Bastok
  • Windurst

What ya gotta do is, pick fights with weak mobs like rabbits worms, or bees. The level of these mobs must be between 1-3 which is higher than your level but safe enough to farm EXP. Your best way would be utilizing Fields of Valor and in no time, you will be at Level 10.

Levels 10-20: Plateau and Peninsula

Since you are at Level 10, you can go ahead and challenge tougher mobs like sheep, lizards, and mandragoras. These enemies are just manageable enough to fight but since they reward higher EXP, the trouble is worth it. The best bet is to continue using Trusts and participating in FoV for more progress.

Levels 20-30: Valkurm Dunes and Shakhrami's Maze

For those who are new to Valkurm Dunes, you need to watch out for the goblins as they do nasty damage. This is also the area where you need to kill the terrible lizards. It might be easy in the start but as you progress further, you will find more enemies that provide higher EXP. The Maze of Shakhrami is also excellent for players who like to play duo or solo with Trusts. Around these levels, you will also need Gil to buy items like NPC services and for teleportation so instead of wasting time on trading to obtain Gil, its better to buy FFXI Gil to avoid wasting time.

Bonus: Gusgen Mines

This area is intended for players between levels 15 and 30. It can be quite challenging if you don't like magic or blunt damage. The main focus in this area is on the skeletons and your health. If your health gets too low, aggro will build up, causing damage. Skeletons jumps at you, causing sudden death.

So other than being mindful of getting buried under a pile of bones and stuff, you just need to be calm. There is also this siren that will ring eventually due to certain causes but it means no harm. It's just to scare the players out of their wits and it seems to be quite successful at its job.

Level 31-40: Citadel and Nest

At this level, you need to focus on the areas listed below:

  • Garlaige Citadel (can be found on the first map)
  • Crawler's Nest (can be unlocked after reaching level 35)
  • Qufim Island (unlocked at level 25)
  • Bibiki Bay (great for casual solo play)

At first, things will be very difficult but as you progress upto, to Level 33, you will start getting the hang of it. In the Qufim Island, you just gotta watch out for the Cermet Walls and the weapons close to them.

Level 41-50: East Ronafure

The Eastern side of Ronafure can be quite exhilarating but it's worthwhile for all the EXP it has to offer. To unlock the East Ronafure region, you will need the old sigil. Other areas you can focus on at these levels are:

  • Garlaige Citadel (deeper floor)
  • Fei'Yin (a very good zone to use Trust)
  • Eastern Altepa Desert

Levels 51-60: Into the Desert

The players of these levels must invest in regions like:

  • Western Altepa Desert
  • Boyahada Tree (unlocked at around Level 58)
  • Kuftal Tunnel
  • Escha ZiTah

The best enemies to target here are robber crabs and weapons. Although they do have high defense, they also provide bountiful EXP. While on it, you could also look for Eschen Crawlers and Worms in the Escha ZiTah region and sand Lizards in the Kuftal Tunnel.

Level 61-75: Final Push

At this point, players are nearing their peak and hence should focus on these areas:

  • Mount Zhayolm
  • Bhaflau Thickets
  • Caedarva Mire
  • Zeruhn Mines

Players will face off against enemies like trolls, Colibri, and Lamiae who are quite tough and aggressive. Using trusts strategically can provide you with a huge advantage over such enemies. In Zehurn Mines, you can go for any enemy you see as they all provide a lot of EXP, especially Burrower Worms.

Abyssea

Levels 75-99: Abyssea

This is the phase where players will go through a significant shift in leveling. After unlocking the Abysea areas, players can farm lights, join alliances, and fight notorious monsters. Some of the key Abyssea zones are as follows:

  • Theine
  • Constituent Assembly
  • Tahrongi

Utilizing EXP rings and equipping suitable gear is recommended for AoE burns and large-scale pulls. Along with conquering the Abyssea areas, players can also move towards these areas:

  • Dangruf Wadi
  • Reisenjima
  • Rala Waterways
  • Adoulin Zone
