Counter Hylos: The Best Heroes, Items, and Meta!

Counter Hylos is one of the topics that is much sought after by the Land of Dawn players. Season 37 This. Yep, this half-horse hero is really meta right now.

With its increasing sustain capacity towards the late game, it's no wonder Hylos is an ideal choice for roamers. So, for those of you who want to know how to counter it, check it out!

Hylos Mechanic

Before we get to the main discussion, it's worth discussing Hylos' mechanics first. As one of the oldest tank heroes in the game, MLBB, the mechanics are still pretty meta.

Equipped with skills that provide heal-buff-debuff effects with a wide "majestic" area of effect and a single target stun capacity, this makes Hylos a fairly flexible tank.

And with the right item selection, Hylos becomes even stronger in the late game! This hero is perfect as an initiator, utilizing the "hit" meta and opening teamfights.

The horse's only weakness is mobility: it lacks a blink skill. While it can sprint with its single skill, it's not enough to keep up with the high-mobility meta/heroes.

Hylos Counter

Now, let's move on to the main discussion: countering Hylos. This discussion will focus on three points: meta counters, heroes, and items. Here's the overview:

1. Meta

As explained above, the best and most suitable meta to counter a team carrying Hylos is macro push and non-war, especially in the late game.

So, use heroes who can deal damage and have high mobility in the early game, then coordinate your team to increase ganking and steal objectives until the early midgame.

Because at that stage, Hylos's items are generally not yet capable of providing sustain, the hope is that your team can snowball first and quickly finish the game.

Ideally, the game should be over within 15-18 minutes. Beyond that, Hylos will become unstoppable—especially if your team doesn't respect him by bringing counter heroes.

2. Hero

Although many heroes can be his natural counters, there are at least four important things that you must have so that you can be effective when fighting Hylos:

  • Has the attribute of output attack true damage;
  • Can produce damage based on the target's HP;
  • Easy escape/dive-in;
  • Can provide a sustain debuff effect.

So, for clarity, VCGamers has selected several heroes that meet these criteria. They're all categorized below, according to their roles:

  • Jungle
  1. Baxia: Can provide a sustain debuff in the form of reduced healing – suitable for dampening Hylos' ultimate;
  2. Hanzo: His mechanics of being able to dive straight into the back of the formation and easily exit the war make him too slippery for Hylos to withstand;
  • Goldlane – Karrie: Her DPS damage is a natural counter to all tank heroes. With a passive that deals true damage based on the target's health, she is highly feared by Hylos users.
  • Midlane – Valir: This disciple of Gord is known as a movement speed-reducing hero who also has passive damage based on the target's HP. This can hinder Hylos during war.
  • EXP lanes
  1. Cici: This hero is the “Karrie” of the EXP lane. Her first skill can deal HP-based DPS damage – perfect for counters thick-blooded heroes like Hylos.
  2. X.Borg: With his latest revamp in patch 1.9.90, all of X.Borg's skills can now deal true damage when his passive is fully charged. Furthermore, his ultimate also deals damage based on the target's HP. Which tank wouldn't be nervous?
  • Roam – Mathilda: With high mobility and escape abilities, Mathilda can prevent the team from being “hit” by Hylos user war setups.

3. Item

You can use items that reduce healing capacity or deal true damage. Here are some of the items you can choose from:

  • HP-based damage: There are two HP-based items that are quite effective in holding back Hylos as a thick-bodied tank, namely the Demon Hunter Sword (DHS), and the Wishing Lantern (Magic);
  • Healing reducer: You can buy Dominance Ice (Defense), Sea Halberd (Attack), or Glowing Wand (Magic) to counteract the healing capacity of Hylos' ultimate;
  • True damage: There are several items that can provide true damage and are suitable for combos with the Hylos counter heroes above, such as Endless Battle and War Axe (Attack), Starlium Scythe (Magic), Thunder Belt (Defense), and Sky Piercer (Attack/Magic).
