Cerita dalam game ini berlangsung 5 tahun setelah seri sebelumnya, Splatoon 2 dan berlatar di Splatlands dan Splatsville.<\/p>\n
Splatlands sendiri adalah sebuah gurun panas yang dihuni oleh Inklings dan Octolings yang ahli dalam bertempur.<\/p>\n
Sedangkan Splatsville sendiri adalah sebuah kota yang telah berkembang pesat sejak Splatfest “Chaos vs Order” di Splatoon 2.<\/p>\n
Mode cerita dalam game<\/a> ini diberi judul “Return of the Mammalians” yang mengambil tempat disebuah lokasi baru bernama “Alterna”.<\/p>\n
Alterna adalah sebuah area bersalju yang luas dengan banyak landskap yang tidak sempurna dan zat tinta berbahaya, Fuzzy Ooze.<\/p>\n
Cerita dimulai di The Crater, dimana pemain akan ditemani oleh Smallfry direkrut oleh Craig Cuttlefish menuju New Squidbeak Splatoon sebagai Agent 3 yang baru.<\/p>\n

Keduanya menggunakan persenjataan yang memakai tinta berwarna sebagai amunisinya. Setiap senjata memiliki kemampuan unik yang berbeda.<\/p>\n
Misalnya, Chargers adalah senjata yang menggambarkan sebuah senapan laras panjang dan memiliki jarak serangan yang jauh.<\/p>\n
Inklings dan Octolings memiliki kemampuan untuk bermetaformosis menjadi seekor cumi-cumi atau gurita. Perubahan bentuk ini disebut dengan “Swim Form”.<\/p>\n
